FAQ

My photos do not reach the Mac

Check that Beamroll is running on the Mac (its icon is in the menu bar) and that the iPhone and the Mac are on the same network (Wi-Fi). If the Mac asks whether to accept incoming connections the first time, allow it. If the iPhone says the key does not match, scan the QR in the Mac menu again.

I cannot scan the QR

Allow Beamroll to use the camera in the iPhone’s Settings. If the iPhone cannot scan QR codes, use “Copy Invitation URL” in the Mac menu and paste it with the Paste button on the iPhone.

Where do the photos land on my Mac?

In ~/Pictures/Beamroll/YYYY-MM-DD/. “Open Folder” in the Mac menu opens it.

Some photos have no .txt

Photos without text get no .txt. Only photos with text get a .txt with the same name in the same date folder.

What happens if I send the same photo again?

You can resend by choosing already-sent photos on the transfer screen. The Mac treats the same photo as a duplicate and does not write it twice.

Someone else saw my QR

Choose “New Key…” in the Mac menu. Every iPhone that was connected will need to scan the new QR.

How do I disconnect my iPhone from the Mac?

Tap “Disconnect” on the iPhone. The connection details are erased; the sending record remains. To connect again, scan the Mac’s QR again.

What data is stored, and how do I delete it?

Sections 2 and 9 of the Privacy Policy list what is stored where on the iPhone and the Mac, and how to delete it.

How much does it cost?

It is free to use. The free version sends up to 10 photos a day, and the count resets at midnight on the iPhone. Buying Pro (a one-time in-app purchase; ¥500 in Japan, and the App Store shows the price for your region) from the iPhone app’s Settings removes the limit. The limit is the only thing Pro changes.

It said today’s free photos were sent, and some photos were left

When the day’s free allowance (10 photos) is used up, the remaining photos are not sent and stay selected. Send them tomorrow, or after buying Pro.

How do I get Pro back on a new iPhone or after reinstalling?

Tap “Restore Purchase” in the iPhone app’s Settings.

How do I get a refund for Pro?

Apple handles Pro purchases and refunds. Sign in to reportaproblem.apple.com and choose “Request a refund” (Apple Support). Apple decides whether a refund is granted.

What do I need?

An iPhone with iOS 17.0 or later and a Mac with macOS 14.0 or later.
